Policies
Last updated: August 2026
Beyond Young Academy is a community art-and-academics academy for children Pre-K through Grade 5 at 374 Millburn Avenue, Millburn, NJ. These operational policies help us maintain a safe, structured, and welcoming environment for all our students and families.
Attendance
Regular attendance is encouraged to get the most out of each program. If your child will miss a session, please tell us before class begins β 2 hours' notice where you can, and a day's notice for absences you can plan for. Anything you tell us before class starts counts as notice; we will not decline a make-up just because notice was short, as long as it came before class.
Arriving late or being picked up early is not an absence and does not generate a make-up.
Students arriving more than 15 minutes late may not be admitted to that session for the safety and continuity of the class.
Pick-up must be arranged by the enrolled parent or guardian, or an authorized adult listed at enrollment. Unplanned pick-up by an unlisted adult requires prior written authorization from the parent.
Private lessons follow a separate 24-hour cancellation window: a private lesson cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice is deducted as taken.
Make-Up Sessions
Each missed class earns one make-up, which replaces that week's session β it is not an extra class. Make-ups are valid within the same calendar month as the missed class (for example, a session missed in September is made up in September). There are two ways to make it up: the same class in a different time slot that same week, or a different class with an open seat (for example, Arts) sometime within the same month. An absence in the last week of a month may be made up in the first two weeks of the next month.
Make-ups are limited to 2 per class per month, and the count is charged to the class that was missed β for example, missing Math and making it up in Arts still uses your Math allowance for the month.
Make-ups must be booked in advance with the front desk and are confirmed only once we confirm them. A confirmed make-up may be rescheduled once with 24 hours' notice; a booked make-up that is not attended counts as used.
A make-up is not available if: no notice was given before class, that class's 2 make-ups for the month have already been used, a booked make-up was missed, your child is on a behavioral suspension, or the make-up window has passed.
If we cancel a class ourselves (weather, facility, or staffing), we arrange the make-up or extend the schedule β this does not count against your monthly make-ups.
Make-ups carry no cash value, cannot be applied against tuition, are not transferable, and are not a basis for a refund.
This policy covers term-enrolled regular classes for the 2026β27 school year. Summer Camp, Tryout classes, and one-off events are covered separately.

Enrollment Term & Refunds
See the Withdrawal & Refund Policy in our Terms of Enrollment for full details. In brief:
- Enrolling in a class is a commitment for the full school year.
- Tuition is non-refundable β no refund is issued if a student leaves part-way through the year.
- The monthly payment plan spreads the cost; it is not a shorter commitment.
- Registration fees are non-refundable once the school year begins.
- Bus fees are non-refundable once the school year begins.
- Missed sessions are handled through make-ups above, not refunds or credits.
- If we cancel a class outright, we place your child in another suitable class or refund the sessions we cannot provide.
Multi-Class Discount
When you enroll two or more fall classes in the same checkout, a discount applies automatically to your class tuition:
- 2 classes: 5% off class tuition
- 3 classes: 10% off class tuition
- 4 or more classes: 15% off class tuition
The discount applies to class tuition only and does not apply to bus, registration, or processing fees.
Health and Safety
Please disclose any relevant allergies, medical conditions, or special needs at enrollment. We ask that parents keep children home when they are ill (fever, contagious illness) to protect other students and staff.
BY Academy staff are not licensed medical providers and cannot administer prescription medications. Emergency epinephrine (EpiPen) or over-the-counter medication may be administered in an emergency in accordance with NJ state guidelines, provided a signed form is on file.
Photography and Social Media
We photograph and occasionally video-record students during classes and events for use in our marketing materials, website, and social media. You may opt in or out of this at enrollment. Your preference is respected; please contact us if you wish to change it. We do not post images that identify individual students by full name without explicit consent.
Lost and Found
Please label your child's belongings. Unclaimed items are held for 2 weeks and then donated. BY Academy is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property.
